ST. CHRISTMAS

The celebration of modern Christmas still has maintained ancient customs, in particular, charms and fortune-telling. In the old days Christmas was celebrated for three days. Later on people would go out on the first day of Christmas. For example, the neighbours would gather in the biggest house, sing Christmas and other songs, pray together until the musicians arrived. The host and the hostess were the first ones to start dancing. This was the official end of the Advent period, as no parties had been allowed or even forbidden during the Advent. The Christmas period in Lithuania lasts until the Three Kings Day. Today the celebration of Christmas in Lithuania, as all over the world, is inseparable from the Christmas tree and presents.
