Travel and learn: routes for the Restored Lithuania 100
What do Nemunėlio Radviliškis and Hollywood have in common? What are the similarities between Stelmužė Oak and Palanga? Who was upset about the short dress of the Statue of Liberty in Kaunas? Who rewrote the discovered Act of Independence? Which President of Lithuania spent the summer with Anapilis ghosts? Why is there a stuffed owl in the House of the Signatories? In which museum are the socks of J. Basanavičius displayed?
The history of one hundred years of the restored Lithuania is not boring, one only needs to learn to listen to it, and the best way to do so is during travels in Lithuania. The team of the Department of Tourism believes this, so today it presents “Travel and Learn! The Centennial of the Restoration of the State”, a journey with 100 stops across 100 years of the statehood of Lithuania.
“If you want to do something good for Lithuania, which will celebrate the Centennial of the Restoration of the State next year, travel to it! The centennial route that we suggest includes historical objects in all regions of Lithuania that are easily accessible to tourists. To implement the initiative, not only our team, but also historians and guides worked for almost a year; municipal and tourist information centres contributed as well. In addition, to attract the interest of our target group (pupils, families, and members of diasporas), we asked designer Aistė Papartytė, the author of illustrations of the rap video clip about Lithuanian history by “Šventinis bankuchenas”, which attracted a lot of attention in Lithuania, for help,” Indrė Trakimaitė-Šeškuvienė, the temporary Director of the State Department of Tourism, is happy about the cooperation.
The electronic publication is available at the official website of Lithuanian tourism.
By the end of the year, is is planned that an electronic subpage with a map, which will be integrated in the new website www.Lithuania.travel, and a mobile app will be created.
