The play ‘Išvarymas’ is a real tour de force of events, encounters, choices, circumstances and past lives, whilst trying to adapt and not to lose oneself.  The characters struggle with double identity: having left the past one behind, they cannot succeed to find a new one. In autumn, Oskaras Koršunovas will start to rehearse the play in the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. The premiere is intended in December.

Playwrights from Cuba, Georgia, India, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, Switzerland, Uganda and the USA are taking part in this year’s Royal Court International Residency. During the residency, the dramatists will produce new works and discuss them with the creative personnel of the theatre in personal and group sessions. Each playwright will work with an attributed British theatre director and translator, who will help to carry out the ideas. There will also be a possibility to work with a team of actors chosen specially for the occasion.

The Royal Court Theatre is one of leading European theatres, constantly promoting new dramaturgy on various occasions. Playwrights who have presented their new works in this theatre include Samuel Beckett, Edward Bond, Martin Crimp, David Hare, Sarah Kane, Harold Pinter, Mark Ravenhill, etc. The Royal Court is one of the few theatres aiming to attract dramatists from all around the globe, participate in the creation of new plays and produce some of them on its stages.

Marius Ivaškevičius is the first Lithuanian to participate in the International Residency at the Royal Court Theatre programme.
