UN Human Development Report: first time Lithuania ranked among the very high human development countries
United Nations Human Development Report placed Lithuania 40, under the Very High Human Development category for the first time.
The Human Development Index is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education and standards of living for countries worldwide.
According to the press release, first time since 1995 Lithuania was placed among the countries having achieved Very High Human Development under the Human Development Index 1, above Portugal, Latvia, Romania, and Bulgaria.
Lithuania has risen four positions compared to the previous year.
Norway was ranked first in the 2011 list of countries. Australia was placed second; the Netherlands, third, while the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Niger remained at the bottom of the list.
This year’s report highlights not only economic value and its importance on a country’s success or human well-being, but it also takes into account the human right to a healthy environment, education and freedom to make use of knowledge and skills for the creation of a better future.
