The Lithuanian capital Vilnius is the largest city in the far north and east of Europe, with particularly pronounced Western European cultural influences in its harmonious architecture. The Old Town is dotted with small boutiques, be it jewellery, clothing, footwear or houseware of local or foreign designers. A visit to the Gates of Dawn, Town Hall, the Cathedral, the Palace of Grand Dukes is a must, just like a climb-up to the bell tower of St. Johns’ church, which happens to be the highest building in the Old Town. The Gediminas Hill will offer you an astounding view of sun-lit roofs of the Old Town. Once on the other side of the brook Vilnelė, you enter Užupis Republic – a bohemian part of Vilnius, with its artistic atmosphere, cosy cafes, inns, pubs, etc. As for cafés, bars and restaurants, Vilnius has plenty of them, from brand new modern to time-tested ones.
